GSDH Prepares to Become the First Transplant Center in Region 12

General Santos City, March 21, 2025 – The General Santos Doctors Hospital (GSDH), in collaboration with the National Kidney and Transplant Institute (NKTI), has launched a Transplant Caravan—an innovative initiative aimed at raising awareness about organ donation. This effort marks a significant step toward GSDH becoming the first transplant center in Region 12.

Dr. Daniel G. Yap, GSDH President and Medical Director, highlighted the urgency of this initiative: “We are all aware of the growing burden of chronic kidney disease (CKD) in Region 12 and the immense challenges faced by patients who must undergo lifelong dialysis, often at great emotional, physical, and financial cost.”

He further expressed his long-held vision for the hospital: “For quite some time, this reality has driven me to dream of bringing kidney transplantation to General Santos Doctors Hospital.”

The NKTI, under the leadership of Executive Director Dr. Rose Marie Rosete-Liquete, will play a crucial role in the initiative by providing expert guidance and logistical support to ensure its success. As the premiere institution at the forefront of Renal transplantation and Kidney Disease Management, NKTI brings invaluable experience and expertise to the program.

During the caravan, esteemed NKTI representatives delivered insightful discussions on key topics, including the current status of transplantation in the Philippines, multi-organ donation, recipient and donor evaluation processes, and deceased organ donation.

This collaboration represents a transformative step in enhancing healthcare services in Region 12, offering new hope to patients in need of life-saving transplants.
